Sports Update

ACS Sport (7&8)

This week was the first week of the ACS Winter Season. Our Year 7 & 8 teams had been working hard over the last 3 weeks in preparation for the upcoming season.

We had mixed results across the first week of the season.

Congratulations to our Year 7 Netball teams who all secured the win, and our Year 7 Basketball B team.

Our Year 7 Tennis Boys' teams had a very strong win over St Michael’s.

On Thursday 18th May, Year 8 Netball had their first ACS Netball Tournament. Team A played against Loyola Secondary College and won their game. There was some really skilful playing and the students felt their training had really paid off. They worked well as a team and could see a big improvement from Year 7. The other two teams played against each other. All students really enjoyed the experience of playing at Victoria University Stadium in Footscray. Students reflected on their play and while they felt they played well, they identified areas to improve on for next time.

A great start to the winter ACS season!

Please download the ACS app from the app store to keep up to date with fixtures, ladders and results. All ACS games commence at 2:30pm.

CGSAV Sport (9-12)

Basketball

A crisp Melbourne morning greeted the Senior Basketball team as they ventured to MSAC for the annual GSSAV tournament. After a nail-biting, one point win over Mercy, the Shining Lamps dropped out next two to Killester College and Clonard College. To make the finals, something special was required. That ‘something special’ was delivered, as the team won their next two games against two St Mary’s teams, meaning we snuck into the semi-finals.

Our chance for redemption against Clonard came in the semi-final. With scores tied and little time remaining, it was accurate free-throw shooting that proved the difference. We won!

The Big Dance was against powerhouse, Killester College. The determination of our team took us so close to winning, but sadly, after the overtime period, we fell two points short of ultimate glory.

The spirit of the team was a joy to witness. Everyone on the team should be so proud to have contributed to such a memorable day.

Badminton

The annual CGSAV Badminton tournament took place on Thursday 4th May. Both our Intermediate and Senior teams worked hard throughout the round robin to progress through to the Grand Finals. Unfortunately, both teams fell short on winning the Grand Final. Well done to all students who competed on the day.
