Round one of the Debaters Association of Victoria Online Competition was held on Wednesday, March 6th. St Aloysius was represented at years 9, 10 and 11.

At D Grade (Year 9), the topic was, That schools should ban contact sports. In an impressive display, St Aloysius won all three debates.

  • St Aloysius College 3 defeated Manor Lakes P-12 College 1
  • St Aloysius College 4 defeated Salesian College Sunbury 2

At C Grade (Year 10), the topic was, That the Victorian government should financially incentivise people to move to regional Victoria. Again, we were too strong for our opponents.

  • St Aloysius College 1 defeated St Pauls Anglican Grammar School (Traralgon) 1

The best speaker is to be confirmed by the DAV.

At B Grade (Year 11) the topic was, That short-stay rental platforms (e.g. Airbnb, Stayz) have done more harm than good. In a difficult empirical debate, St Aloysius came out victorious.
