A full term two

From the Deputy Principal

In this edition of the Newsletter, you may read articles of celebration across a broad range of areas in the life of St Aloysius College. Flags won by our senior girls AFL team, challenges of a linguistic kind achieved successfully through the Dante Alighieri Poetry competition and staff developing a stronger understanding of the importance of delivering a catholic, mercy education to our students.

This collective spirit of gratitude commenced Monday with St Aloysius Day; in the week of the Feast Day of St Aloysius. We reflected on the sacrifice Aloysius Gonzaga made as a young person turning away from wealth and military status to care for the sick and connecting closely to God through prayer and his compassion for the poor. House group meetings delved into social justice and supporting our House Charities. This program of activities and tasks was created by our Mercy In action Leader, Lauren Marquet, and resulted in every student writing a prayer for those less fortunate, living with great challenges or writing a pledge to make compassion, service and justice part of their daily actions. After, we moved to the Hall for the St Aloysius Day Mass. Our Mass was celebrated by Reverend Michael McEntee and our Liturgy Leader, Adam Valladares, along with Choral Director, Amber Sindoni, created a space of collective worship, reflection and music to share. The festivities began soon afterwards with fancy dress themed, “Aussie Icons”, food and games.

This week members of our chamber choir, Aloysius A Capella were invited to sing in support of the opening of Mercy Education’s National Office. Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Ministry Companions Trustee Directors, Mercy Board Directors and Principals of Mercy schools were present to hear the warm harmonies our students delivered.

Of course, academic progress is never neglected, and I am certain that senior students are pushing hard into the term break with summative reports for Years 11&12 being released on the last day of term.

Students can access campus from 8.15am to coincide with supervised duties on the college grounds and the opening of the DTIC for private study. There is some scheduled sports training before school commencing at 7.45am, however there is an expectation that students are ready at their scheduled classrooms for learning to commence at 9am. In this final week of cold term 2 mornings, can we please be mindful to be on time for classes strengthening positive routines and habits.

Enjoy your term break positive and refreshed for term 3 commencing Monday 21st July.

St. Aloysius, Guide for the Youth

Lord Jesus, we seek the intercession of St. Aloysius, our guide for the youth.
Illuminate their paths with wisdom and courage, helping them to embrace virtue and resist temptation.
May they find strength in faith and purpose in their journey, growing in love and service to others.
Bless them with your grace, that they may shine brightly in the world.

Amen.
