From the Deputy Principal
We are all met with personal and professional challenges every year but our response to these challenges is a measure of our character. I was surprised how often this year’s College theme, “Never be afraid of the unknown” was brought to the fore in mind and in action over the year. Of course, we are all allowed the occasional slip up but overall, Catherine’s words seemed to be the motivator when found in a predicament.
Year 10 students finished their ACS sporting commitments after winter season finals. What followed was the Leadership in Mercy Program. This quote from Catherine McAuley, was referenced in many ways throughout this program and the students heeded the message. Year 10 Fallon students planning and executing classroom support for Year 7s, 10 Verdon preparing a worm farm for our Food Technology food scraps to make fertiliser for the College gardens. Scully and McAuley Year 10 students left campus and visited St Mary’s House of Welcome and Mercy Place Aged Care Facility. These experiences pushed students out of their comfort zones, into the unknown and they are richer for the experience, not just raising awareness of the House charities but actively contributing to their purpose.
Our musicians expressed their talent with skill and courage through ensembles, orchestras, dance and examples of musical theatre at last week’s Courage Concert. The talent was outstanding, and the Instrumental Music and Performing Arts staff are to be congratulated for their preparation and mentorship of our students.
Many of our staff relatively new to our College completed their training to deliver the Universal Learning Program which works alongside Victorian Curriculum but enriches critical thinking and student agency in our learning programs. ULP is complementary to our values-based education.
A successful Step Ahead program to ready our students for their 2026 studies and an equally successful Orientation Day for our incoming Year 7s means our academic year is ending in a positive way.
From December 10, students under 16 will be asked to delay engaging in the following Social Media platforms: Facebook, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, X (Twitter) and YouTube. For many, this new regulation will seem like an ‘unknown’ so we encourage parents to visit the eSafety Commissioner website where free parent/carer webinars are available to educate and assist.
For now, may every Christmas Blessing be with you, your family and friends and keep you safe until we open the doors to 2026 and a new year of learning and enjoyment.
