From the Director of Catholic Mission & Mercy Ethos
On Friday 13th of September, we celebrated Mercy Day, honouring the heritage and legacy of our College, the Sisters of Mercy, and our foundress, Catherine McAuley.
Our Mercy Day celebrations began with a shared Mass with our College community, focusing on our theme of Acting with Mercy and Serving with Compassion. The Mass of the Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Fr Thang Vu. Fr Thang was joined by students, staff and guests from Mercy Education, Mercy Ministry Companions and Sisters of Mercy.
Thank you to the many staff and students who were involved in our Mass, including prayer readers, ministers of Communion, photographers, altar servers and assistants, technical crew, and our musicians and singers for leadings us in prayer through music.
Directly following the mass we held our formal Mercy Day School Assembly, where the 2025 perfects were announced and inducted with their invited family members who joined us in the Mass and Assembly.
We then announced the finalists and winners of our House Co-Curricular competitions and programs, where students won point for their House groups. This included the House Creative Arts competition, House STEM competition, and House Social Justice Program initiatives. The four finalists of the House Performing Arts competition also performed. All these programs not only bolster house spirit but also showcased the various talents of the students at St Aloysius.
After the Mass and assembly, students participated in Pastoral organised activities to raise funds for their House Charities around the college. Students led the running of events and selling goods including a Sausage Sizzle, ‘Just Dance’ competition, Egg and Spoon Race and Chocolate Block Coin Toss. All money raised is to be donated to our local and extended Mercy community.
There was also a staff verse students netball game, and senior music student concert.
Once students were dismissed, staff gathered for our annual Mercy Day staff lunch and auction, where staff bid against donated items, raising over $1500 towards our supported Mercy Charities.
Overall, Mercy Day serves to display our Mercy charism, continuing in the legacy of Catherine McAuley by supporting those in need in our community, and gives us an opportunity celebrate our school spirit.
Thank you once again to all staff and students for making the day possible.
