A warm welcome

From the Principal

Prayer:
Loving God, As we journey through this Lenten season, open our hearts to your presence. Help us to act with kindness, seek justice, and walk gently with one another.
May our thoughts, words, and actions reflect your love in our community each day. Amen.

Lent is a time that calls us to reflection, compassion, and renewal. It invites us to pause and look inward, to consider the ways we can grow in kindness, patience, and understanding. During this season, we are encouraged to make space for stillness, to listen more deeply, and to recognise the needs of those around us. Lent also challenges us to act with intention—seeking opportunities to contribute to a more just and caring world, both within our school and beyond. It is a journey that reminds us of the power of small acts of generosity and the importance of walking gently with one another as a community of faith.

Last week, we celebrated an important milestone in the development of the Senior Years Campus with the topping out ceremony. This occasion marked the completion of the building’s highest point and symbolised the progress and promise of the project.

We extend our sincere thanks to members of Mercy Ministry Companion and Mercy Education CEO, and CFO, for joining us, and the Building Engineering team for organising such a meaningful event.

I also warmly acknowledge the presence of members of the Advisory Council and Community Connect, whose ongoing support continues to strengthen our College community.

Our Opening College Mass will take place on Tuesday 3 March at St Patrick’s Cathedral, and we warmly invite all families and community members to join us. As our College Theme for this year- Mercy Unfolding- The blessing of unity dwells amongst us, invites us to nurture a community where every person feels valued, included, and connected.

All Year 7 students attended the annual camp last week, where they formed new friendships and took part in activities that encouraged teamwork, confidence, and connection, as they begin their secondary school journey. I extend my sincere thanks to the staff who planned, supported, and accompanied the camp.

At the beginning of this week, I commenced meetings with Year 7 students in their pastoral groups to hear their reflections on their transition to the College. These conversations provide valuable insight into how they are settling in academically, socially, and emotionally, and allow us to ensure that each student feels known, supported, and confident.

On Monday, 2 March, we will celebrate International Women’s Day during our College Assembly. The official date falls on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

This year, UN Women Australia has announced “Balance the Scales” as the official theme for International Women’s Day. The theme highlights the urgent need to ensure fair, inclusive, and accessible justice for every woman and girl. To “balance the scales” is to commit ourselves to equity, and to work toward systems and communities that uphold justice for all.

This message aligns deeply with our Mercy Education values.

  • Compassion invites us to understand the experiences of others.
  • Justice urges us to challenge inequality wherever we see it.
  • Respect reminds us of the inherent dignity of every person.
  • Hospitality calls us to create spaces of welcome and belonging.
  • Service encourages us to act for the good of others.
  • Courage inspires us to stand up for what is right, even when it is difficult
