The Final Days

From the Senior Years

Term 4 is an important time for VCE students, particularly the Year 12 cohort. At this time, there is a dual focus on celebration and preparation: celebration of the near completion of their formal classes that brings to a close their final year at high school, and the shift to individual preparation for their VCAA examinations.

This has come quickly for the VCE Unit 3&4 Italian and Japanese students, who recently completed their VCAA oral examinations. Reflecting on the journey towards the Italian oral, Ms Stangherlin commented:

The VCAA oral examination is a significant milestone in our Year 12 Italian students’ language journey. After months of dedicated study, countless hours of preparation, and a great deal of perseverance, they can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

The joy and sense of accomplishment they feel is well-deserved, as all their hard work has paid off. I’m incredibly proud of their commitment and wish them the best for the remainder of their VCE exams.

There have been several important celebratory events this week where VCE students have showcased their various gifts and talents in Music, Art, and Design Technology. Key events included the VCE Music Concert, featuring VCE Music students in concert, as well as the St Aloysius College Art and Design showcase. These were both amazing events that demonstrated the passion and dedication of VCE students to the arts at the College. Performances by Lila Kelly of ‘My Immortal’ by Evanescence and ‘Zombie’ by the Cranberries, along with the VCE ‘Rock Band’ ensemble and the VET Certificate II and III in Applied Fashion and Technology parade, were notable highlights.

For Year 11 students, the VCAA examinations are also the main priority, with 44% of the cohort currently undertaking a Unit 3 – 4 subject in 2024. Students in Year 11 continue to attend their scheduled Unit 4 classes until their examination.

Some other significant markers of time for the VCE students include:

  • VCAA Unit 3 – 4 Performance examinations (as advised to students 7 October – 3 November)
  • VCAA Unit 3 – 4 Language examinations (as advised to students of non-College-based languages Tuesday 15 October)
  • VCAA Unit 3 – 4 Written Examinations (Tuesday 29 October – Wednesday 20 November)
  • Year 11 Reflection Day (Wednesday 20 November)

Legal Studies Excursion

On Wednesday 16th, The Year 11 Legal Studies class visited the Melbourne Magistrates Court. We began with a Q&A with Supervising Magistrate Rose Falla, the first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person appointed as a Victorian magistrate. Magistrate Falla talked to us about her involvement with First Nations in court, and her work aiming for change. It was interesting and inspiring to hear her career pathways and the most fulfilling aspects of her job, offering great advice to our class. We were then able to explore various court rooms and sit in on ongoing cases. It was very intriguing to see the law being practiced first hand, seeing everything we've learnt so far being put into practice. A lot of our class left with a greater interest in law as a career and wanting to revisit, like myself.
