From the Senior Years Leader

I welcome all senior students, parents, and carers back to St Aloysius College for the first week of Term 1, 2024. All students have returned in a positive way, with their focus on the year ahead. As part of students’ preparation for the year, it is important that they have completed all holiday preparation tasks, organised themselves for the year ahead, and considered the impact that their part-time work hours will have on their studies this year.

Another cornerstone of the shift that senior students make for their VCE is the partnership between themselves as students and the teachers as experts in their subject disciplines. This working relationship is important to foster through positive interactions, including the small things like greeting their teacher on the way into class and thanking them for each lesson. These small acts of gratitude and kindness are core parts of Mercy hospitality in action each and every day.

Additionally, students in Year 12 have had the chance to build positive relationships with their peers and their pastoral leaders at the Year 12 Retreat held at St Mary’s College, Melbourne University. The retreat is a time to take stock and set intentions for their final year at St Aloysius College as they look ahead to what university life might look like through their overnight experience on residence at Melbourne University. For others, their paths may take them into other tertiary learning at TAFE, while other students might opt for apprenticeships or full-time work.

Finally, the Year 12 Formal tonight at the San Remo Ballroom will be a highlight for Year 12 students, and we look forward to seeing them celebrate the commencement of their Year 12 year in style. We are sure they will be looking resplendent in their formal attire, tearing up the dancefloor, laughing, and ushering in the start of their year with joy.
