From Year 10

Term Three has seen Year 10 focusing on how to be prepare for entry into the workforce. Students have investigated an appropriate way to formulate a resume and learnt tips to writing a cover letter for a job. They have been set the task to find a job advertisement that they would be currently eligible to apply for and are formulating their resume and cover letter to meet the criteria listed. Students have also explored the “do and don’ts” related to what should be worn to an interview.

In the most recent Nourish centre, we had a speaker from the Young Workers Centre. The speaker spoke about workplace rights, health & safety, bullying and discrimination. The intention is that if young workers are informed of their rights, then hopefully, they can enjoy a safe and happy work environment when they commence employment. Students learnt about whether they can be asked to complete trial shifts, be paid in cash, what to look for on a pay slips and breaks. It was a very insightful presentation for both the students and staff.

I was lucky enough to recently supervise the Year 10 Drama class creating a 10 minute “variation” of Romeo and Juliet including dancing!
