Assessment, Sport and Pathways

From Year 10

As we approach the assessment period, our Year 10 students have been demonstrating an impressive level of dedication and maturity in their preparation. Across all subjects, students are engaging with revision resources, seeking feedback from teachers, and showing a strong commitment to improving their understanding. Students have been making great use of study timetables, attending Quiet Time Session on Friday lunchtimes and ACE support sessions after school, and collaborating with peers in group revision activities. Their positive attitude and hard-working approach have not gone unnoticed, and I am always very proud of the effort and resilience they continue to show.

Susannah Engler from 10B was chosen to join the senior team for the CGSAV Hockey tournament yesterday. She has scored eight goals in five games and has made a significant contribution to the team. Congratulations, Susannah, on your impressive achievement!

In this week's Wellbeing Session, Year 10 students had the chance to work with their Year 7 mentees to explore what it means to be a Mercy student and to create a safe environment that fosters positive relationships. The mentorship program offers Year 7 and Year 10 students the opportunity to build a strong bond and provide supportive advice to support wellbeing and enjoy learning in a nurturing environment.

This week, Year 10 students will also attend the Victoria Careers Show at the Showgrounds. This event helps to broaden our students’ knowledge about different subjects and the pathways available for them in their senior years.

This morning all students enjoyed a half-day with school ending at 12:30. This was definitely a refreshing start to the week. During the morning, all year 10 mentors were excitedly awaiting another enjoyable session with our year 7 mentees. In our session, we covered the importance of respectful relationships, how to approach different scenarios (such as witnessing teasing) and tactics that would be appropriate to combat the scenario. Today was most definitely a welcome and calm start to week 4 of term 2.

On Thursday the 1st of May, all the Year 10s went on an excursion to the Holocaust Museum for us to get a further understanding of our current topic in Humanities about World War II and the Holocaust. During our visit to the Holocaust Museum, we went on a short tour through the museum, then we listened to the stories told by a Holocaust survivor named Henry Ekert, and he told us about his childhood and the journeys he had to take during that time. It was an incredibly inspiring story and left us with more knowledge and understanding about the Holocaust and what the people who went through it had to experience and overcome. It was a very enlightening experience that we all enjoyed.

Although we’ve only had a few sessions with our Year 7 buddies, the experience has been meaningful. On Monday, we took part in a session focused on respectful relationships, where we discussed the importance of kindness, fairness, and mutual respect in friendships and everyday interactions. It was a great opportunity to connect with our buddies on a deeper level and support them in building positive relationships as they start high school. Even with limited time together, it felt like we were able to make a positive impact.
