A busy fortnight!

From Year 10

It has been a very busy time for our Year 10 students over the past fortnight.

Last week, the Year 10 students attended the Victorian Careers Show at the Showgrounds. They learned about tertiary education and received assistance in choosing their pathways and subjects for their senior years. In the coming weeks, students will engage in the subject selection process, which will be supported by guidance from the careers advisor, teachers, parent evenings, and presentations run by various Learning Leaders.

Additionally, various excursions took place over the last two weeks, including the Seed of Justice Conference, the ACS Chess Competition, and excursions for STEM and Theatre Studies, among others. Notably, the Year 10 Basketball Team C also won the ACS competition last week, and their efforts are to be commended.

As the Year 10 mid-year exams approach, students have been busy preparing. They are well-supported by their teachers, parents, and carers, which is essential for ensuring that they take care of themselves during this time.

Student reflections

The excursion to see the Musical Hadestown was a riveting opportunity and experience. The excursion introduced us to elements of Greek Theatre that the production had incorporated into the play such as the stage being shaped as an amphitheatre and the small chorus/ensemble. Very surreal and altogether wonderful.

On the 21st of May the Year 10 Theatre Studies class went to see Hadestown at Her Majesty’s Theatre. We went because it’s based on Greek mythology, which we’ve been learning about in class. The show told the story of Orpheus and Eurydice in a modern and creative way. The set, lighting and live music were really impressive and added a lot to the mood. It was a really engaging performance and helped us understand how ancient stories can be retold in new ways.

The Careers Show excursion really got us excited about going to University open days and has encouraged us to start thinking about further studies after high school. We are really grateful for the opportunity to look at courses and study areas of different universities and explore the diverse opportunities available to us. This event has helped us gain a better understanding of the structure of university courses, we would recommend other people go.

Today at the Careers Expo, I had the opportunity to expand my interest on pathways for after VCE. There were many stalls grasping our attention with tote bags, booklets and many prizes. There were also several food trucks to finish the day off nicely. To improve, it would have been great for just an extra hour or so to attend a few more seminars.

We were lucky enough to go to the Careers Expo on Thursday, we were able to go around to different stalls that we were interested in. I found it helpful to be able to talk to people from different universities to ask them questions.
Feedback: I enjoyed how we went earlier in the day, so we were able to skip the long queues in the middle of the day.

The year 10s have had a good few weeks since coming back from holidays. School has been going very fast with exams around the corner! We have been studying away and working hard!- Also trying to take exams as a practice. We have had a few really fun and insightful excursions to the careers expo, thinking about VCE and Uni!
