Examinations

From Year 10

Year 10 students commenced their mid-year Examination this week. Exams can be stressful for many students, so it is important to develop a good study plan and routine to prepare for the studies. For parents, please encourage your child to focus on the topics required for their examinations. Have them create a list of key concepts to revise, review past assessments and notes, and highlight questions and concepts they are unsure of. Most important of all, study the subjects one by one and encourage them to take breaks in between. This is also a valuable opportunity for students to gain experience taking an exam and preparing for their senior years. Students are always encouraged to do their best, and that’s what matters.

Last week, during Wellbeing period, Cate Rushan, our College Psychologist, came and spoke to our Year 10 students on stress management. She highlighted the role of stress and various ways to manage it so it maximises our wellbeing. Most important of all: self compassion.

A number of Year 10 students who joined students in other year levels represented the College to attend the ACS Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to all students who participated. A special mention to Amelie Mullins who came third in 800m and Zoe Mullins who came third in 400m. Well done, girls! The netball girls' blue team won the ACS last week. Well done!

This week in year 10, we have been preparing for the exams next week. I can say on behalf of all of us that we are all feeling a bit anxious, some more than others. However, I have been keeping to a positive mindset, reminding myself that we just need to try, and that's the best we can do. Mid years also aren't the best ruling of our understanding over subjects, as we have already had the summatives. Due to our arising stress, Ms Ma kindly organised a presentation with one of the school psychologist Cate, to teach us how to deal with our stress and anxiety during this time. The main takeaways are that the level of anxiety is a little bit good and motivating; however, too much leads to exhaustion and burnout. To deal with these high levels of stress, maintaining self-compassion and alignment with our values is crucial and will greatly benefit our wellbeing.

Next week is going to be stressful, but we just need to remind ourselves of our friends, family and that really 'who cares' about a grade, we get back up again and continue on, it is only year 10!
