From Year 10
Year 10 students have had a very busy start of the term with a number of curriculum-enriching excursions and activities, as well as the Art and Technology Exhibition. Congratulations to our talented Year 10 Visual Arts and Technology students received awards at the Melbourne Royal Show during the holiday. As the ACS senior competition concluded, Year 10 students participated in the Leadership in Mercy program designed to extend their learning and personal growth. Students participated in Mercy in Action projects which linked to their House social justice themes and had the opportunity to receive career related advice and learn about resume writing from RMIT. Students also participate in various physical activities, mindfulness workshops that focus on general wellbeing, leading with collaboration, and further developing a growth mindset for their upcoming examinations. This term promises to be busy yet fruitful as we finish off the school year. As we dive into this busy term, students are encouraged to embrace the challenge and make the most of it.

Health and Physical Education Learning Highlight
Our Year 10 students have been engaging in the Think Safe, Act Safe Unit in Health Education, where they explored strategies to make safe and informed decisions in various situations. As part of this unit, students participated in an interactive First Aid lesson delivered by our College Nurse, Jodie Laube, learning valuable life skills such as how to respond in an emergency and support the wellbeing of others and themselves.
In Physical Education, students will now take part in a series of Self Defence lessons, designed to build confidence, awareness, and practical safety skills. These sessions empower students to recognise potential risks, respond calmly under pressure, and take responsibility for their own safety and wellbeing, important life lessons as they prepare for their senior years.

On the 7th October, our year ten cohort was fortunate enough to experience a CPR crash course as well as basic safety lessons, in honour of Shocktober. Shocktober is a month-long campaign to highlight the importance of learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Run by our wonderfully engaging school nurse Jodie Laube, we took part in an interactive CPR lesson, learning about anatomy, how to perform CPR along with other crucial first aid details. Overall, this was an exciting and equally educational experience and a great way to ease into the first week back of term 4.
Keona O’Brien, 10B
The first aid course Jodie took us through was a great opportunity to learn the basics of what to do in an emergency including how to perform CPR, manage wounds and injury, as well as how to manage people affected by drugs and alcohol. We got to put the skills we learnt into practice testing CPR on a fake heart, which everybody in the class got the opportunity to do. Overall, it was a fantastic opportunity to learn from Jodie and her experiences as a nurse.
Gracie Scott, 10B
In health class, Jodie ran a presentation that was designed to promote the importance of learning how to properly conduct CPR when confronted with an unconscious person. We thoroughly looked through the response actions and how to efficiently handle individuals in certain situations which not only helps keep them safe but also us. It was a beneficial experience as it taught us the importance of danger and health combined when out in the community. We were able to practice the correct form of CPR and receive constructive feedback on how to calmly approach a situation where somebody is unconscious. This presentation helped us gauge an understanding of why learning CPR and the warning signs of an unconscious person is immensely important and convenient when in social settings.
Amy Bozinovic Dodemaide, 10B
Over the past weeks, I had the pleasure of taking an excursion to the Parliament house of Victoria, it was a great experience to see first and the system behind the very stuff we learn about in class. The guided tour was a great insight in the history of our government and we learnt about stories, events and significant figures of the past!

In Physical Education, we are currently learning self-defence, which is helping us develop fundamental skills to protect ourselves in real-life situations. This unit focuses on teaching us practical techniques that can be used to stay safe and respond effectively in potentially dangerous or threatening circumstances. To support our learning, we have had guest instructors visit our class to teach us elements of Taekwondo, helping us every step of the way. These sessions have given us the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, helping us improve our technique, build confidence, and gain a deeper understanding of how to stay safe in real-life situations.
Alisa Webb, 10A
It has been a busy start to the term with exams coming up. We have all been learning new topics, which have been very interesting. In science we have been learning about the universe, in English about argument analysis and writing our own pieces, and in humanities about human wellbeing and environmental change. We have been working very hard and are looking forward to the holidays as we near the end of Year 10.
Audrey Fleming, 10B
Last week the year 10 politics class went to our State Parliament. We took a guided tour and got to visit the beautiful library and both of the chambers. We learned alot not just about the way parliament runs but the little things that go on behind the scenes to help our government function. This was a very fun and educational experience and I would love to go back.
