A busy term.

From Year 10

It has been a busy and productive term so far for our Year 10 students, with many balancing the demands of academic studies, sporting commitments, and a wide range of co-curricular activities. It has been wonderful to see students embracing these opportunities and making the most of what school life has to offer. In classrooms, students have shown increasing focus and commitment to their learning. Many have been taking positive steps to stay organised, meet deadlines, and challenge themselves to improve. Their efforts are a strong reflection of their growing maturity and determination in senior years.

A number of excursions took place in the last few weeks which gave students the opportunity to experience real-life learning. We have 17 Year 10 students who will be joining the Italy and Japan tour in the next few weeks. Experiences like this will help to develop independence and confidence as they navigate new environments, cultures, and challenges on their own.

Student reflections

Term 1 was extremely exciting and action-packed, providing a fantastic start to the year. We kicked things off with STRIVE week, which set a high-energy tone from the beginning. One of the highlights was heading into the city to participate in Urban Quest, where we explored, searched for clues, and
solved challenging puzzles. It was an unforgettable experience and a great way to build teamwork and problem-solving skills. STRIVE week also included a careers assembly, where Year 10 parents shared their career journeys, offering valuable insights—especially for students still unsure about their future pathways.
As the term progressed, our focus gradually shifted towards academics as the workload increased, but there were still plenty of engaging opportunities to break things up. A major highlight was the wide range of electives available this term. For example, Art3D and STEM, both of which included unique experiences. In Art3D, artists Nabilah Nordin and Nick Modrzewski visited our class to demonstrate their work and discuss their careers. This was incredibly inspiring and gave us a real insight into the life of an artist and the opportunities different career paths can offer. For STEM, we attended an excursion to the Melbourne University STEM program, where we explored future foods and even made our own chocolate using insects. This eye-opening experience showed us how innovation could shape the future.
In addition, new subjects like Food Technology, Media, Science and Maths extension classes, and HHD Unit 1 gave us a valuable preview of VCE next year. ACS Sport was another standout, filled with fun and a number of victories across different sports. Overall, Term 1 has been packed with fun activities, interesting electives, and memorable experiences, making it an enjoyable but rewarding start to the year.

Term 1 was a time of learning and growth. I faced challenges that helped me improve my learning and study plans. Despite some difficulties, I learned to stay persistent. This term has prepared me well for the upcoming exams and further work throughout the year

Although the start of year 10 brought a heavier workload, it was full of extremely fun events such as STRIVE week, where many students particularly liked the excursion to the city and participating in the 'Amazing Race' - style scavenger hunt. With more options for electives I found it easier to focus on subjects that I had a genuine interest in and the various excursions for electives provided unique opportunities for real world experiences. So far year 10 has been a challenging, but ultimately engaging and enriching experience, facilitated by our year level leader Ms Ma, whose constant support and communication has been essential in creating an inclusive environment for learning and thriving.
