A warm farewell

From Year 7

Last week we came together for the Year 7 Farewell Assembly, a really lovely chance to look back on the year and celebrate a cohort who have been calm, kind, and genuinely great to work with. They began the year wide-eyed and figuring out where everything was, and they now leave Year 7 as confident young people who have settled beautifully into secondary school life.

The assembly highlighted just how much this group has grown. Teachers and Pastoral Leaders shared stories from the year, the quiet wins, the “lightbulb” learning moments, the friendships formed, and yes, the enthusiastic cheering that somehow only ever reaches maximum volume on ACS days.

A big congratulations goes to Cooper Greenham, our Student of the Semester. Cooper’s steady effort, positive attitude, and all-round great character made him a very deserving recipient.

We also had some exciting news to share: Miss Madeline Vines has been announced as the Year 8 Level Leader for 2026. She knows this cohort well and is already a familiar, trusted face for them. The applause spoke for itself.

Finally, I shared that I will be finishing up at the College at the end of the year. I want to sincerely thank our community for the support, trust, and partnership you’ve shown throughout 2025. It’s been a privilege working with your young people and being part of their journey this year.

We wish our Year 7s all the very best as they take their next steps. They’re a great group, and they’re more than ready for what comes next.

At the start of the year I didn’t know where any of my classes were or my teachers’ names, but that soon changed. All the staff and students were very welcoming and helped me get to my classes on time. In my journey through year 7 there were way too many highlights to name but here are some of my favorites, getting into the ACS footy grand final with an amazing team and great coach who took us all the way, even though we didn’t win we all had heaps of fun. Another great memory was St Aloysius day where I made plenty of friends and got into a dance battle with Declan which I won. So overall this was the best first year of high school and I wouldn’t change a bit of it.

At the start of the year, I didn’t know what to expect. I also had no friends coming along with me from primary school, which made me extremely nervous. However, because of my kind teachers and the fun opportunities I had like camp, STRIVE, our Year 7 Zoo excursion and many more, I had the opportunity to make so many new friends and to have the best and most unforgettable first year of high school!
