From Year 7
As we move into the final days of Term 1, it has been extremely pleasing to see the continued growth of our Year 7 students—not just in their learning, but in their confidence, independence and sense of belonging within the College community.
Over the past fortnight, students have navigated a particularly busy period, including the completion of NAPLAN and the increasing demands of classroom assessment. They approached these experiences with maturity and resilience, demonstrating their ability to adapt to the expectations of secondary school.
A key focus at this stage of the term has been supporting students to strengthen their organisation and study habits. As highlighted in recent student reflections, managing homework and assessment timelines remains an area of development. This is very typical for Year 7, and we are continuing to explicitly teach and reinforce strategies such as effective diary use, task planning, and seeking support when needed. We encourage families to continue checking student planners and supporting these routines at home.
It has also been a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the strong sense of community that has formed across the year level. Students are increasingly demonstrating kindness, inclusion and respect in their interactions, both in and out of the classroom. This was particularly evident during recent Health and Physical Education lessons I observed, where teamwork, encouragement and active participation were on display.
Harmony Week has provided a valuable opportunity for students to reflect on the importance of diversity, respect and belonging within our College. Through a range of activities and discussions, students have engaged thoughtfully with these ideas and contributed positively to creating an inclusive environment for all.
As we close out the term, we encourage students to remain focused and organised as they complete any remaining assessments and prepare for a well-earned break. Looking ahead to Term 2, we are excited to continue building on the strong foundations established this term, particularly in relation to student voice, leadership opportunities and ongoing wellbeing. It was a pleasure to see so many of our families out our Year 7 Community Barbecue last night, and look forward to spending more time with you throughout the year.
Thank you to our families for your continued support throughout a busy and successful term.
