From Year 8
Welcome back to all our Year 8 students. It’s been a fantastic start to Term 2, with students returning refreshed, enthusiastic, and ready to learn.
It has been wonderful to hear about the awesome holiday experiences and vacations that many of our students had. Below is a segment from Owen who is a part of the Air Force Cadets and the opportunity he had during the term break.
On the holidays as apart of My Air Force Cadets, me and a few other friends in Year 8 went to the Point Cook Airbase and had a joy flight. We went up in a fairly small plane (Diamond DA40) and went for a flight around the area. I got to sit in the front seat next to the pilot, but sadly I didn't fly the plane. He pointed out lots of things to us like big shopping centers and the Laverton Weather Station. Some other people in other flight were lucky to get Air Force pilots who pulled some G forces for them and did some steep dives. Overall it was a great experience, and although I was really tired I had lots of fun.

This week, classrooms have been buzzing with activity as students settled back into routines, reconnected with friends, and began diving into new topics and projects. Teachers have been impressed with the positive attitude and strong engagement shown across the year level.
This newsletter provides a glimpse of what students are learning in science at the moment.
In Term 2, Year 8 Science students are extending their foundational knowledge of cells from Term 1 to explore how cells form tissues, organs, and ultimately organ systems within living organisms. To begin this unit, students reflected on their prior knowledge through a combination of images and personal insights, connecting science to their own experiences.
Students have commenced their academic inquiry by researching key organs, identifying their functions, and understanding their positions within the human body. As the term progresses, students will go deeper into the digestive, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems. Through engaging demonstrations and hands-on practical activities, they will continue to develop their scientific inquiry skills and deepen their understanding of human biology.

In Year 8 Science we are learning about human organs and human anatomy. So far, we have learnt about the different organs and systems in the human body. For example, in class we were told to research a type of organ with a partner. We chose to do the large intestine which is responsible for absorbing water and electrolytes and producing and absorbing vitamins.
