From Year 8
On Monday the 25th August, our Year 8 students had the wonderful opportunity to present their speeches for the 2026 Vice Prefect roles at the Junior School Assembly. Congratulations to Gemma Sutherland, Edie Ryding, Eva Balder, Alexis Faga, Joseph Liew, Henry Mathieson, Anirudh Palya Raghu, Serena Saliba, Luca Sortino, and Finn Thomas for their outstanding efforts.
Each of you delivered speeches that were thoughtful, authentic, and a true reflection of your personal values as students and proud members of the St Aloysius community. As your Year Level Leader, and on behalf of the pastoral team, I would like to say how proud we are of you all. It takes courage to stand in front of your peers and speak with confidence, and you should be commended for the way you carried yourselves on the day.
In addition to this special occasion, our Year 8 students also took part in the annual Year 8 Maths Games Day, where they competed against 57 schools from across the state. St Aloysius team 1 placed an impressive 27th, which is a fantastic achievement. A special mention goes to our participating students who represented the College with pride and enthusiasm:
Year 8 Team 1

Year 8 Team 2

- Finn Thomas (8A)

Both events highlighted the commitment, resilience, and talent of our Year 8 students. We look forward to seeing them continue to shine as leaders, learners, and role models within our community.
Lastly, on Friday the 22nd of August, we had the ACS Cross Country carnival out in Bundoora Park. What a wonderful turnout from the number of Year 8 students representing St Aloysius! With 36 students from Year 8 participating, we saw some fantastic results.
- Lukas 8E 8th Place
- Sophie 8A 15th Place
- Austin 8B 27th Place
- Luca 8F 29th Place
- Celina 8D 31st Place
Overall, St Aloysius came 5th at the Cross Country carnival with Girls finishing 5th overall and Boys 6th overall. This is a fantastic result and with the number of boys and students increasing next year, we are excited to see our talent continuing to grow.
Well done to everybody for their efforts, you should be very proud of yourselves. Lastly, a big thank you to Declan, Mr Wilson and Miss Luke who have been organising run club every Thursday morning in support of the students' training for cross-country.
Big congratulations to the following teams who competed in the ACS intermediate Grand Finals on Thursday:
- Intermediate Boys Soccer B vs St Leonards
- Intermediate Boys Soccer D defeated Westbourne
Student Reflections
Over the last week, we have been starting a variety of new topics. These include Energy in Science, The Sacraments in RE or Inverse operations in Maths. All of these topics have furthered our knowledge on past topics and expanded our abilities in the classes. We have experienced many challenges across these areas but are always happy when we understand or 'get' the ideas! Overall, the last weeks have been great, and I am looking forward to the rest of the term!

At ACS, we were all so proud to make it into the top 4 in intermediate A team but coming so close to winning, we unfortunately lost at the end in the semi-finals. Even though we didn't take first place, it was still an amazing achievement that showed our hard work and teamwork. In art, we've been exploring ceramics, creating animal figures like dragons, penguins, sharks, and way more. Last week has been amazing and I can't wait for what's coming next.

This week has been jam-packed with all sorts of new things to learn ranging from rhythmic dancing in sport to linear equations in maths. We've had some amazing opportunities to try new things and expand our understanding of our subjects. It's definitely been a highlight being able to excel in these new skills with my friends and peers.

Over the last week in English we have been working on our English summative. For this summative we were asked to pick an ad to analyse such as Uber Eats, Menulog, Nike, and others and find visual and written persuasive techniques throughout it. We then have to present our analyses to the class. I have really enjoyed this topic in English and can't wait for the next one.
