A Strong and Connected Start to the Year

From Year 8

Our Year 8 students have made a confident and positive start to the year, demonstrating enthusiasm, resilience and a strong sense of belonging within the school community.

The year began with the STRIVE program, where students built confidence, collaboration and wellbeing skills through hands on challenges and reflective activities. As part of this program, students were supported by external providers. Proactivity provided a day full of team building and collaborative activities, ConsentLabs delivered sessions focused on respectful relationships and affirmative consent and Elevate Education supported students to develop effective time management, organisation and study habits. Students engaged meaningfully with these programs to practice and apply real world skills applicable to both their learning and future lives.

The Year 8’s then transitioned smoothly into regular scheduled classes, eagerly meeting new subject teachers, reconnecting with routines and embracing their new elective subjects. The High Achievers Assembly was a particularly inspiring moment, with the Class of 2025 sharing their journeys and motivating Year 8 students to set high expectations for themselves from the outset of the year.

A significant highlight of the year so far was the Year 8 Reflection Day, themed Mercy In Action: Walking Together for Justice. Students explored the College’s Mercy values through a range of meaningful activities, including a Water Walk around Royal Park where they walked in solidarity with young people around the world who travel long distances to access fresh water for their families. This powerful experience deepened students’ empathy and understanding of global justice and launched their involvement in Caritas fundraising initiatives for the year ahead.

Across all activities, Year 8 students have shown a genuine commitment to engaging with their learning, supporting one another and contributing positively to the wider school community. These early experiences have set a strong foundation for a year focused on growth, connection and living out our shared values.
