A term of growth, connection and achievement

From Year 8

It has been a busy and rewarding start to the year for our Year 8 students. From the STRIVE program, to Reflection Day, to settling into new classes and elective subjects, students have embraced the increased expectations and responsibilities that come with being in Year 8. It has been wonderful to see their growth in confidence across the term.

A standout highlight has been our Caritas fundraising initiative, which provided students with a meaningful opportunity to put our Mercy values into action. The initiative began on Reflection Day, with students generously donating non-perishable food items to support those in need. This spirit of service continued throughout the term, with each Pastoral class contributing delicious homemade treats to lunchtime food stalls that were enthusiastically supported by the school community.

The stalls were a fantastic success. Not only did they raise an impressive total of over $1500 for Caritas, but they also showcased the generosity, teamwork and compassion of our Year 8 cohort. It was truly a celebration of hospitality and community spirit, with students taking pride in making a difference.

It has also been fantastic to see so many students step up into leadership roles as Class Captains and House Leaders. These students have embraced the opportunity to lead with confidence, organisation and school spirit and I look forward to their contributions in Term 2 and throughout the year. More broadly, the entire Year 8 cohort has shown a growing sense of responsibility, embracing their role as leaders and role models for our Year 7 students, whose position they were in not so long ago.

We thank our students and families for their ongoing support and contribution this term, and we look forward to building on this strong foundation in Term 2.

It was nice coming back for Year 8. I got to meet new classmates, teachers and begin my new favourite subject Food Technology where I get to learn how to cook. I made some nice dishes throughout this term such as nachos and fried rice. I also get to work in a group for this subject and it's lots of fun. There are still loads more things to come, and I can't wait!

So far, I have really enjoyed being a year 8. So his year I have had so many opportunities to make new friends, experience different areas of learning and make new connections with my teachers. I find it really cool not to be the youngest year level in the school, and I am excited to see what more I can experience throughout the rest of the year.
