From Year 9

Week five already. It is hard to believe we are halfway through Term One. This week in Nourish we had our first session of Respectful Relationships. This lesson is one of a series of lessons based on respect for self and others. It encompasses emotional intelligence and empathy for others. Students really enjoyed the session and they said that are looking forward to the next session as it made them see things from others perspectives.

It is exciting that the school musical has been announced. This year the college is performing Seussical the musical. This will be so colourful and fun. I wish all the students that are auditioning the best of luck. Don’t forget there is backstage and ushers that are also required on the night so if students not one to act, sing or dance, they can still be part of the musical.

Classes have been running smoothly with elective subjects in full swing. I visited a Year 9 Art class the other day and students were enjoying making pottery. It was great to see how creative they were being.

It is always good to hear from students so here is what Arabella and Polly Jean from 9C said about the last few weeks.

Last week in Year 9 Food Technology we explored Indian cuisine through making Spiced Indian Potatoes with Cauliflower and Lamb. This week we indulged in a delicious Italian cuisine by making Spaghetti Bolognese. The ACS Swimming Training commenced last Wednesday, with an impressive turnout of students. There were about 20 students that went down to North Melbourne pool to train and try out for the Swimming Team. We had to participate in 25-meter swim trials and everyone had a lot of fun. Last Wednesday we had an Ash Wednesday Service. The Year 11 and 12 Leaders came to our classroom to distribute ashes during the liturgy while we listened to calming music. We were able to reflect on the Season of Lent. The term is going quickly and we are enjoying every moment.
