From Year 9
Our Year 9 Food Technology students have been exploring a "Foods Around the World" unit this semester and recently immersed themselves into French cuisine. A highlight of this learning experience was a visit from the Crêpe Délices food truck, which brought the flavours of France right to our school grounds!
Students enjoyed tasting traditional French crêpes and were treated to a live demonstration on how they’re made. They learned about the delicate art of creating the perfect crêpe from avoiding overfilling to selecting the perfect toppings. This experience was fantastic and gave the students the opportunity to have conversations with the Crêpe Délices team, who shared valuable insights into French food traditions and culture.
We have had a busy semester of some fantastic excursions including our recent trip to the Queen Victoria Market, where they completed a scavenger hunt exploring the wide range of cuisines on offer. Students tried food from different cultures, interacted with stallholders, and discovered new ingredients and culinary traditions many had never seen or tried before.
As the semester wraps up, our Year 9s have had a busy and rewarding journey exploring global cuisines and evolving their practical skills in the kitchen!

Food Technology Teacher
On the 3rd June, the food technology classes had the amazing opportunity to visit Queen Victoria Market. We were given the chance to roam around and explore the market, being introduced to the many unique foods and ingredients that are used in different cultures. I had Dutch pancakes, which were fluffy and sweet as they were served with caramel and dusted sugar!
It has been a great opportunity to be able to extend our studies through experiences outside of the food technology kitchen, visiting cultural food experiences and learning about how food brings people together. This excursion was a real highlight of the semester as well as our visit to Il Mercato Centrale earlier in the year.
