Drama Performance

From Year 9

After months of preparation, some of our Year 9 Drama students took their creativity to the stage on Friday 31 October at the Malthouse Theatre, performing as part of the renowned Suitcase Series program.

This year’s featured production was Who No Know Go Know by Kudakwashe, a powerful and thought-provoking play about young people responding to the challenges of climate change. The work draws on the cultural concept of Sankofa, a Ghanaian word from the Akan tribe meaning “to look back in order to move forward”.

Throughout the semester, students developed their own original performances inspired by the play’s themes. Performing on a professional stage gave them the chance to showcase their creativity, collaboration and confidence. They also watched performances from other schools, shared constructive feedback, and reflected thoughtfully on feedback they received.

In the afternoon, students attended the professional production of Who No Know Go Know and took part in a question and answer session with the cast. Hearing directly from the performers about their creative process and the message behind the play was a highlight of the day.

The experience deepened students’ understanding of how theatre can explore complex global issues and inspire positive change. It was a truly enriching and memorable day, and our Year 9 Drama students represented the school with pride, enthusiasm and professionalism.

On the 31st of October, the Year 9 Drama Class took a trip to the Malthouse Theatre. It was such an amazing experience that we got to take part in and being able to learn from professional actors and other schools including Xavier College and Victorian College of the Arts. Our scenes were inspired by "Who No Kno Go Kno" by Kudakwashe, which explores identity and legacy in a futuristic African setting. We had so much fun and cannot wait for the future amazing opportunities the Drama classes will have.
