Mercy in Action
Junior Seeds of Justice Conference
A group of passionate Year 7s and 8s applied and were selected to represent the college at the “Junior Seeds of Justice Conference”, hosted this year at the Academy of Mary Immaculate.
The Seeds of Justice Program is a Mercy Education initiative that inspires students to live out Mercy through active engagement in social justice. The Student Conferences offer a unique opportunity for students from Mercy schools across Victoria to meet, celebrate our faith tradition and explore together issues of equity, human dignity and care for creation.
This year’s Junior Conference focused on Homelessness in Melbourne. The students participated in interactive workshops and heard from guest speaker Holly Pabian from St Mary’s House of Welcome in Fitzroy.
It was wonderful for the Year 7 and 8 students to learn more about this important service as both the Year 9 and Year 10 Mercy in Action Programs have been supporting this organisation over the past few months. These students will have the opportunity to participate in these programs in future years.
The St Aloysius students donated long life milk as our contribution to hampers that were packed during the Conference and then delivered to St Mary’s House at the end of the day.
I really loved joining the Seeds of Justice Junior Conference because it allowed me to come closer with other schools and discuss things that we, as students, can change. It has inspired me to be a better person and think more about others and how I can help them. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and I would love to join next year to talk more about supporting our own community.
Matilka Robinson, Year 7
The 2025 junior seeds of justice conference was really interesting, I learnt many new things about homeless people and how we can help them as a school, it was really interesting to meet the other mercy schools in Victoria. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.
Gemma Sutherland, Year 8
Year 9 Mercy in Action Program
The Year 9s have completed their Mercy in Action Programs. To support the donation drives initiated by the Year 9s, students, staff and parents have been donating essential products
to support in particular; St Mary’s House of Welcome in Fitzroy and the Brigidine Asylum Seekers. Thank you to everyone for their generous contributions.
We will finish off our program with an icypole sale on Tuesday 25th to raise money for the School of St Jude in Tanzania, which marks the start of our college support of children at this school.
Year 10 Leadership in Mercy Program
Congratulations to all Year 10 students for their commitment to the Year 10 Leadership in Mercy Program. We look forward to continuing and expanding these programs in 2026 and beyond.
