Mirror of Hope
Students in the Year 9 and 10 cohorts gathered in our STEM area alongside several staff members to listen to the inspiring words of Tommy Nyawir. Tommy shared the impressive work of his ministry, Mirror of Hope, which he established in Nairobi, Kenya. Mirror of Hope has been instrumental in providing aid to those struggling with poverty in the slum of Kibera, where Tommy himself grew up. He experienced firsthand the hardships and deprivation that many in his community faced—lacking basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter. However, his life took a transformative turn when he received assistance from a compassionate visitor from Ireland, an act of generosity that changed his life forever. Motivated by this act of kindness, Tommy founded the Mirror of Hope ministry, driven by a deep desire to give back and honor the support he once received.
Tommy's talk allowed our students to gain valuable insights into the challenges faced by communities on a daily basis, and how Mirror of Hope is working tirelessly to offer a "hand-up" rather than a mere "hand-out." They learned about the organization's commitment to empowering women, men, and children, and the opportunities it provides to break free from the chains of poverty that for generations have enslaved them. Through the efforts of Mirror of Hope, individuals are given the chance to bring about positive change, offering hope and a brighter future for the people of Nairobi, Kibera in particular.
