Dear Parents and Friends
Welcome back to St Aloysius College for the beginning of the Autumn Term. I hope you all enjoyed an excellent Easter break and that you made the most of the stunning weather over the ANZAC Day holiday.
While everybody was enjoying their Easter break, work did not stop at the College we completed another renovation more details are provided by the College Business Manager in this Newsletter.
The year is certainly flying by and it is incredible to think that we are already in the month of May. May in the northern hemisphere is the month of spring, of new life, and it may be for that reason that May is a month where we focus on our mothers - our earthly mother with Mother’s Day, and our heavenly Mother, Mary. In the Catholic tradition May is known as the month of Mary, a tradition that goes as far back as the thirteenth century - we honour Mary in May by crowning her statues with flowers, similarly to how we present our own mother with flowers on Mother’s Day.
Speaking of Mother’s Day, which occurs on Sunday 8 May, we celebrated at school this morning Friday with our annual Mother's Day breakfast - we were blessed this year to welcome Jocelyn Bignold from McAuley Women Services as our guest speaker, and honoured to support this very worthy organisation.
As we celebrate the month of May, I will leave you with an open letter and prayer written in 2020 by His Holiness Pope Francis which encourages each of us to rediscover the beauty of praying the Rosary - and to all mothers, have a wonderful and relaxing Mother’s Day.
