Exploring New Horizons

Outdoor Education Camp

On Wednesday the 22nd of May the Year 10 Outdoor Education class left St Aloysius and headed to Halls Gap in the Grampians for the schools first ever Outdoor Education camp. This was a 3-day camp and the class was accompanied by Mr Sullivan (subject teacher), Ms Kameniar and Mr Gall.

On the camp the students participated in a range of activities designed to get them out of their comfort zones while linking to content the students had studied in the classroom during the first semester such as outdoor technology and the concept of risk. Over the 3 days the students participated in bushwalking, mountain bike riding, canoeing, abseiling and rock climbing.

The students were also able to visit the Brambuk Cultural Centre located in Halls Gap to learn about the areas deep indigenous history and ties. One key fact all students took from this visit was that the traditional name of the Grampians in the Jardwadjali and Djab Wurrung languages is Gariwerd, which means pointed mountain.

When not participating in activities the students furthered their class friendships and built some healthy rivalries by participating in table tennis tournaments, kicking the football or playing multiple games of Uno.
