Victorian Interschool Snow Sports Competition

The Victorian Interschool Skiing Competition was held in August at Mt Buller. With over 250 schools competing in 9 disciplines in 2026, St Aloysius had three competitors; Charlie Laguda (7C), Angus Meissner (9A) and Josie Simnett-Sage (9F). The students competed in alpine skiing, cross country skiing & snowboarding events with Angus qualifying and competing for the Giant Slalom National event and Josie qualifying for the Snowboard GS & Cross National events. Congratulations!

Victorian Athletics All-Schools Championships

Five students competed at the State Athletics Championships at Lakeside Stadium over four-days of track and field. Lucas Saavedra narrowly missed out on a PB in the 100m, but competed admirably on the wettest day Melbourne has seen in a long time. Theodore Stavroulakis finished 14th in the boys 400m running a new PB. William Trethowan ran two PB’s in the 800m and 1500m in stacked fields. William Dearness matched this feat in the 1500m and 3000m races. Our highlight goes to Alisa Webb in Year 11. Alisa finished 7th in the 400m final on Thursday before returning to the track on Saturday for the 2000m steeplechase. She ran a huge PB to win a bronze medal. This run has also qualified her for the National All-Schools Championships in Perth where she will represent Victoria.

Rowing Regatta

In partnership with Essendon Rowing Club, we had two students compete in the Head of the Barwon Regatta. Millie Delaney was part of the winning Coxed Quad team competing in the Division One 4km race. She followed this impressive feat up with a second place finish in the A-C Coxed Quad competing with her sister Ruby Delaney.

Louis Sirotic had an incredible row in the Single Scull race coming in 4th place in the Male Open School competition.

Millie and Louis also attended the National Time Trial event during the holidays, the first step to Australian representation. Millie was 5th in the under 19’s competition with Louis 17th in the Male equivalent.

If any student is interested in taking up rowing please get in touch with Declan who can pass on more information.

Dragon Boating

Our after-school dragon boating programme has been growing from strength to strength. Since beginning in term 2 over 60 students have tried a new sport, taking to the water and stepping outside of their comfort zone.

As a result of the fantastic engagement, St Aloysius will be entering their first regatta in November. Hosted by Dragon Boat Victoria in partnership with Footscray Falcons it will be an amazing opportunity for our young paddlers to compete together and experience the thrill of race day.

Wil Wadsworth-Speight also recently competed at the National Dragon Boating trials during the school holidays in Canberra. Wil completed in a series of on and off water training sessions hoping to be selected for the Australian National Team. He has the Lake Nagmbie Regatta coming up so we wish him well.
