St Aloysius College was delighted to be welcomed this morning to the Catholic Girls Sports Association of Victoria (CGSAV) Sports Leaders Breakfast at Marian College. Students leaders from CGSAV member schools from across Victoria heard from World Champion triathlete Emma Carney who shared her motivating journey of following the seven steps of success from her first ever triathlon in Melbourne to winning the World Championships in Wellington eighteen months later.

Having the opportunity to go to the sport leaders' breakfast and listening to Emma Carney’s story provided me with a lot of insight of the motivation and courage it takes to advance in sport. Her story highlighted the struggles that individuals face throughout their journey, but Emma continued to express how the journey was worth it, to be able experience the feeling of winning. This opportunity allowed me to form connections with girls from other schools, where through sharing the common interest of sport we were able to discuss our passions and goals.

On the 13th of February, I had the opportunity to attend the Sports Leadership Breakfast at Marian College. It was an insightful morning with guest speaker Emma Carney. Emma Carney is a sport Australia Hall of Fame athlete member, World Triathlon Hall of Fame inductee as well as many more titles. She told us of her highs and lows in sports. Her presentation inspired me to aim high in sports because you never know where it may take you. Emma allowed us to ask questions and created great motivation for all of us young athletes. It was a good bonding experience to get to know students from other schools that we usually only see on the sporting fields.

I felt so privileged to be given the opportunity to attend and represent my school at the sports leaders breakfast. Emma Carney was the guest speaker for the event, she was amazing. So inspirational and upfront, Emma spoke about how she set herself a goal and stuck to it, which really inspired me to become the best and my sport and even my schooling as well. This breakfast was also a great opportunity to meet other girls from different schools and connect with them, sharing our love for women’s sport. Overall, this event was a really great opportunity for us to represent St Aloysius College as emerging female athletes.
