VCAA Plain English Speaking Awards
Congratulations to Year 11 student, Fadzai Bako on winning the prestigious, VCAA Plain English Speaking Award State Final.
The final was held at the Wheeler Center on Friday, July 25th.
An opening field of over 150 students from Victorian schools was narrowed to six finalists. Each speaker delivered a prepared, eight-minute speech. They built upon the speeches delivered in the previous rounds. Through her speech, Fadzai examined the nuances of hustle culture in a contemporary context.
After this, students were required to deliver an impromptu speech with limited preparation time. The topic was, A New World. In this speech, Fadzai questioned contemporary music and possible misogynistic undertones in the lyrics. The competition was extremely close.
The presence of Fadzai's family at the event made the win even more special.
