Excursion

VCE Theatre Studies

At the end of last term, on Thursday, April 3, our Year 11 and 12 Theatre Studies students took a trip to Chapel Off Chapel to see Jekyll & Hyde, presented by A Slightly Isolated Dog. This play is part of the official VCE Theatre Studies Playlist, and students study the script in class, examining the characters, themes, and production elements before experiencing the performance live. Afterward, they evaluate how effectively the creative team has realised the production on stage.

With a modern and slightly absurd take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic gothic novella, the performance proved to be very engaging and entertaining. The show blended theatre, music, and comedy in an immersive style that brought the themes of identity, duality, and inner darkness to life in bold and unexpected ways. The students thoroughly enjoyed the show, particularly the immersive aspects. Many came away inspired by the performers' comedic talent and their skill in effectively involving the audience.

Overall, the excursion was memorable, fun and a valuable opportunity for the students. It will undoubtedly help shape their creative work and deepen their understanding of performance as they prepare for their VCE assessments.
