Empathy

Year 11 Reflection Day

The cohort of Year 11 students concluded last week with a Year Level Reflection Day.

Focusing on the theme of Empathy, students explored what the understandings of empathy are, how we can improve our empathetic portrayals and how are they being empathetic as well as how they could be more empathic in the community. Students also delved deeply into interpretations of our 2023 College Theme, a quote from Catherine McAuley – “We should be as shining lamps, giving light to all around us.” With this, students created artwork which displayed what the theme means to them.

Included within the day was also a Yoga session with an external instructor, allowing the students to unwind after the end of a demanding week.

To finish off the day students participated in a liturgy which was led by the students, including prayers, reading and hymns which linked in the themes of the day. Hearing the Gospel passage of the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) they reflected on how it is not only an example of empathy and compassion, but also what it means to show the ‘Light of Christ’ to our neighbour.
