Reconciliation Week

Assembly

This week, our school community came together for a meaningful assembly in honor of National Reconciliation Week, celebrated annually from May 27 to June 3. Led by our student leaders, the assembly highlighted the significance of this week and its profound importance in the history of Australia. The students discussed two key events that Reconciliation Week recognises: the 1967 Referendum, which acknowledged Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the national census, and the 1992 Mabo Decision, which challenged the concept of terra nullius and affirmed native title. These significant moments were articulated as “vital bridges in our journey—transitioning from ignorance to acknowledgment, and from injustice to truth.” The theme for Reconciliation Week 2025, “Bridging Now to Next,”* was a major theme of the assembly. Students urged everyone to reflect on the progress we've made and to commit to the necessary actions today for a more just and equitable future for the coming generations.
