Looking ahead

From the Senior Years

As Term 2 began this week, I commend the Senior VCE students in Year 11 and 12 for their excellent attendance and participation at the College House Athletics carnival on Wednesday 22 April. This year, the carnival was held at Lakeside Stadium in South Melbourne. Attendance on the day was strong for both year levels:

Year 11 – 81% attendance

Year 12 – 92% attendance

For Year 12 students, this was an important occasion and marked their final House Athletics carnival at the College. For many, the highlight of the day was the costume and colour that the Year 12 students brought to the day. This included a wide range of exciting and fun costumes, with the four Kung Fu Pandas a fan favourite.

I commend all Senior VCE students for their involvement on the day, whether as competitors in a range of track and field events, as House marshals and/or supports to their House Prefects or in supporting the smooth running of events as ‘helpers’ on the day. These are great examples of the Mercy College values of courage and service.

Another significant Senior Years experience that awaits is the opening of the Boundary Road Senior Campus. Construction is occurring at a rapid pace inside the building. Plumbers, carpenters, electricians, and all manner of project managers are overseeing the build process. On Monday 20 April, the St Aloysius College Senior Leadership team had another progress tour of the building. It will truly be an impressive place for students to learn and I hope that the ‘sneak peak’ progress photographs both excite and reassure that the building targets are on track for a Semester 2 opening. I know I speak on behalf of College Principal, Ms Mary Farah, in sharing the excitement we have to open the building with the 2026 VCE Senior Years students in Years 11-12.
