Reflection Day

From Year 10

It has been a very busy time for our Year 10 students in the past two weeks. In Wellbeing session, we had the privilege to have Angelica, founder of ‘This is your body’ who came and spoke to students about the importance of staying true to their values and sense of self and they should be separated from appearance. One thing for students to take home was:

“One of the greatest things to strengthen your relationship with your body is to focus on what it is capable of doing.”

Angelica will return in October to run a session on nutrition and eating habits.

Without a doubt, one of the highlights for our Year 10 cohort last week was Reflection Day. The theme was “Strength in Struggle: Advocating for Ourselves and Others”. Students identified their personal strengths and learned to use them to overcome challenges. We were privileged to have Michelle Newland, who shared her powerful story of resilience and recovery. Her journey inspired our students to advocate for themselves and others, especially the vulnerable. Michelle’s story has truly touched our hearts, and I encourage everyone to visit her website to learn more about her experience. I would like to extend my gratitude to Mr Valladares and Ms Anastasiadis for organising the day, and for arranging the beautiful liturgy to conclude the day. I also want to sincerely thank the students who attended the Reflection Day for exemplifying the Mercy values of hospitality, courage, service and respect. They participated actively in the activities throughout the day., and their contributions made it a special experience for everyone involved. I am very proud of them!

A number of Year 10 students also participated in the Math Games Day and made a great achievement in the competition. Congratulate to all students involved.

I also congratulate to all students who have been elected as Year 10 Class Co-captains for Semester 2.

Student reflection

Last week, 9 students and myself were given the opportunity to attend the Victorian Math Games Day where we compete with 200+ high math achievers in the state. At the event, I get to learn the skills from many other competitive schools like Melbourne High, Mac rob, PEGS etc. Though we didn't win, we all had fun and made new friends. I look forward for another game if there is one next year!

On Monday the 31st of August the Year 10 cohort was privileged enough to listen to the wise words of Angelica from “This is Your Body”, who spoke to us about the importance of staying true to their values and sense of self and they should be separated from appearance. This seminar was extremely helpful as it taught us to appreciate ourselves exactly how we are. It was a really nice opportunity for the cohort to have a reset and wellbeing reflection as we reach the stressful end of term. Thank you to Miss Ma and other leadership for organising this wonderful talk!

On Wednesday the 2nd, the year 10 cohort attended Reflection Day. This day provided a excellent opportunity for the year level to reflect on ourselves and the academic year so far. To begin the day, we completed a self-reflection booklet, in which we analysed our strengths and weaknesses as an individual, and our positive personality traits. Following this, we the had the amazing opportunity to listen to an excellent guest speaker Michelle Newland, who spoke to us about her incredible recovery journey after a severe asthma attack, looking at the power of hope and faith. She was truly touching to the whole year level, and we were all very honoured to have the chance to hear her story.

After lunch, we finished off the day with the choice of either an Art reflection or sport, where we took the last two hours to meditate on ourselves while doing something we love.

Overall it was an amazing day, and a beautiful way for our year level to connect back in with ourselves and others as we reach the end of the term! Thanks to all the religion teachers who helped organise this day, and Ms Ma for making it all happen.
