From Year 8
We warmly welcome our Year 8 students and families back to the St Aloysius College community for Term 2. We hope the break provided an opportunity to rest and recharge, and that students return ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges of the term ahead.
Our focus for Term 2 is consistency in learning, engagement in co-curricular activities, and organisation. By continuing to build on the positive habits established in Term 1, students are developing the foundations for long term success, both this year and into their future schooling.
Throughout the term, students will also engage in important moments of reflection and community connection, including activities, assemblies and liturgies recognizing, among others, the ANZAC legacy and National Reconciliation Week. These experiences provide valuable opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of history, identity and respect within our wider community.
In the classroom, there is plenty to look forward to across all subject areas. In English, students will explore the theme Courage, one of our Mercy Values, through poetry, unpacking powerful ideas and perhaps discovering their own poetic voice along the way. Mathematics will see students tackling the Pythagorean theorem and experiencing a concept that has challenged learners for generations.
In Physical Education, students will explore anatomy and biomechanics through Net and Wall games, learning how their bodies move and how to improve performance. Science will focus on systems of living things, highlighted by the much anticipated, and slightly squeamish dissection of a heart. In Religious Education, students will delve into the story of the Early Christians and the work of Saint Paul, exploring themes of faith, community and perseverance.
Creativity will also be on full display, with Design Technology students designing and creating their own tote bags using a range of techniques, while Art students put the finishing touches on their ceramic pot designs, bringing their ideas to life in impressive and tangible ways.
It promises to be a busy, engaging and rewarding term. We look forward to seeing all that our Year 8 students will learn, create and achieve.

This term, the thing I'm most excited to learn about is my design technology project! We get to design our very own tote bag, learn all about the design process and personalise it any way we please. As a student, I believe getting a say in your work and creative process is very important as we're all growing up to be independent adults, that can make our own decisions.

It has been a great start to Term 2, with the House Athletics day, ACS tryouts and starting new units of learning. One subject I am especially looking forward to doing this term is Humanities because we are learning about landscapes, landforms and natural features of the world. I think it will be extremely interesting and hands on as we get to make models of landscapes and landforms as our summative task. I believe that many students will find it super fascinating and even if they aren’t that interested it will still be super engaging and immersive which is a nice contrast to some of our more theoretical subjects.
