An exciting and busy start

From Year 9

After an extended school holidays to end Term 1, the start of Term 2 was a busy one for the Year 9 students as the school launched into the Athletics carnival on the second day back. A change of venue saw the Athletics held at Lakeside Stadium this year instead of Coburg Athletics track. The students all competed in at least one event and when not competing showed great house spirit by supporting their friends and students of their schoolhouses throughout the day.

On Monday the 27th, St Aloysius held its ANZAC liturgy. The Years 7-9 liturgy was held in the second half of Period 3 to allow all students in these year levels to congregate in the school hall. This liturgy provided the students the chance to learn and reflect on the sacrifice of the original ANZACS (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) in 1915 and all Australian men and women who have fought and died for this country. Two Year 9 students (Emily Bishara and Lucas Jaksic) spoke during the liturgy and shared their thoughts on the importance of ANZAC day and reflected on visiting the Australian War Memorial at the start of the year during the Canberra Trip.

The Junior Learning Conferences on the 28th, while allowing the Year 9 students another 4-day week, have also been sure to help get them focused for the term ahead with targeted feedback and advice from their subject teachers.

Overall while it has been an exciting and busy start to Term 2, the following weeks now allow the students the chance to hit their straps academically as we settle back into regular classes and begin to put organisational structures in place to set themselves up for the remainder of the year.
