Year 9 Program

Mercy in Action

Our brand new program for Year 9s has commenced in earnest. Each pastoral was assigned a charitable organisation that aligns with our Mercy Values and Mission. During Year 9 Reflection Day, students worked with their teachers to research in depth their allocated charity before designing a plan for a hands-on activity that will directly benefit the community and the people assisted by these organisations.

Year 9 Pastorals will be supporting the following organisations.

9A

McAuley Community Services for Women

9B

Mercy Place Aged Care Facility, Parkvilla

9C

St Mary’s House of Welcome, Fitzroy

9D

Brigidine Asylum Seekers, Port Melbourne

9E

School of St Jude Tanzania

9F

Donations in Kind, West Footscray

For example, 9C will be working to support St Mary’s House of Welcome in Fitzroy. They have chosen to run a collection drive for period products to support women facing homelessness in the Fitzroy area.

Year 10 Leadership in Mercy program

Year 10s returned to their Social Justice initiatives this week. Fallon students have been exploring different ways they can ‘create opportunities through education’ at St Aloysius. The students have spent time developing resources to support students in various disciplines to pursue academic growth and success.

Verdon students finalised their plans for the design of the new Herb garden for Food Technology and are on track to having a new garden established by the end of the program. Scully students returned to Mercy Place where they firstly participated in a seminar to learn more about aged-care before meeting with the residents where they shared photos in a “learning about each other” activity. McAuley students returned to St Mary’s House of Welcome where they created an afternoon tea of fruit dipped in chocolate, and created craft activities to support programs at the centre.
