CGSAV Sport
Indoor Cricket
Ten students from Years 11 and 12 competed in the CGSAV Indoor Cricket Division 3 Tournament on the 3rd April. The team represented the college superbly, displaying both competitiveness, fairness and support of each other.
The team posted convincing victories in their first three round matches against Ave Maria, Marian and St Mary's Colleges. They were beaten by Killester College in the fourth round, but still finished on top of the table. In the semi-final, they showed great skill in hitting the ball into the side and back nets to secure valuable runs and put to effective use 'sneak' runs learned from previous coach Brian Brooks.
The Grand Final saw them face Killester College again. All players displayed excellent bowling and fielding skills, while Captain Poppy ten Hoopen's tactical bowling choices and Mary-Grace's hat-trick in the final over helped to restrict Killester to a score of 45 off their 8 overs. We batted well under pressure, but Killester launched an effective couter-attack to our 'sneak' runs, and we fell short by 7 runs.
Basketball
The girls did a fantastic job competing in the recent CGSAV Basketball tournament on Thursday 1st May. The day was filled with fun and teamwork with the team winning 2 out of 5 games. We progressed through to the Semi-Finals against Killester College in what was a tight contest with not much between the two sides. Amelie Ellerton was super throughout the semi-final and was well assisted by Alice-Everitt and Mary-Grace Fitzgerald who were determined to get the team across the line. Unfortunately, we just fell short to Killester by 3 points. Well done to all who participated!
