VCAA Plain English Speaking Award
St Aloysius is making history, thanks to Year 12 Co-Captain Fadzai Bako. On Friday 31 July, the State Final of the VCAA Plain English Speaking Award was held at The Wheeler Centre. The very best speakers from across Victoria gathered to deliver an eight-minute prepared speech and a three-minute impromptu response. The standard of competition was exceptionally high, with all six finalists demonstrating the skill, poise and intellect that had earned them a place on the state stage. For a third time, Fadzai delivered a compelling and heartfelt rendition of her prepared speech, "What Colour is the Headline?", captivating the audience with both its insight and sincerity. In the impromptu section, she impressed judges and audience members alike with her wit, weaving contemporary references, including Love Island, into a thoughtful and engaging response. Fadzai's ability to combine intellect, authenticity and humour set her apart, earning her the title of VCAA Plain English Speaking State Champion for the second consecutive year. In doing so, she achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the first student in the competition's history to win back-to-back state titles. Congratulations, Fadzai. Your achievement is truly extraordinary, and we are incredibly proud of all that you have accomplished. Olivia Wenczel |
