Vinnies Sleepout
Twenty-one students from various year levels took part in the 2022 Vinnes Winter Sleepout. This is an activity which raises awareness of the plight of people experiencing homelessness. In sleeping overnight in the College Hall, students gained an insight into the reality for people experiencing hardship in our society. Money and clothing donations were also collected to assist the St Vincent de Paul charity in their assistance in programs such as The Soup Vans and help those in need to put food on the table, pay essential bills, stay in their homes, and keep their kids clothed and at school.
This incursion was arranged mainly by Clair Harris (12B), as part of her VCAL studies, as well as members of the College Social Justice Group. Students participated in shelter making competition, a budgeting exercise as well as learning about homelessness in Victoria and hearing from those affected. They also heard from Vinnies volunteers, and those who have been supported by The St Vincent de Paul Society.
A huge thank you to the staff involved including Ms Ma, Ms De Bono and Ms Bloomfield who gave up their evening in supporting the girls in their experience.
Donations to the Vinnies Sleepout can be made until 29 July 2022 through the main reception.
